¿Cual es la diferencia?
Muchas personas me preguntan la diferencia entre:
Either and Neither
Es fácil olvidarlo, ¡pero lo recordaremos!
Either lo usamos para cuando uno de los dos es la respuesta correcta.
Neither lo usamos par cuando ninguno de los dos es la respuesta correcta.
Whom are you going to the party of those two?
Neither of them. They are busy working tonight.
When will you finish your homework?
Either tonight, or tomorrow morning before class.
Either y neither
Los dos se traducen por "tampoco", pero hay una diferencia. Vamos a ver la misma frase con las dos opciones.
Either se usa en oraciones negativas
Por ejemplo:
-I'm not hungry, what about you? (No tengo hambre, ¿y tú?)
-I'm not hungry either. (Yo tampoco tengo hambre)
Como vemos, la frase donde encontramos either está negada por el verbo (I am not)
Neither se usa en oraciones afirmativas
Por ejemplo:
-I'm not hungry, what about you? (No tengo hambre, ¿y tú?)
-Neither am I. (Yo tampoco)
En este caso, el verbo no está negando nada, es afirmativo (I am)
