We talked about international development and its important UN-centred SDGs agendas. This time, instead of giving the topic directions like the first class, I asked Javier to prepare for the class. Understanding the topic could be very difficult for immediate-advanced level learners because of vocabulary or even specific knowledge, I spent much time struggling with expressing myself and I talked very little. Javior talked more. Even though I could understand him 90% of the time, I had difficulty of having idea about how to keep up the conversation and make myself learned, and I found him just want to go through his previously-prepared instruction and finish talking about agendas instead of spotlighting my learning problems and adjusting the class. Having challenges of expressing is very common for language learners, and that's also the reason why we are here. I think a very important role for a qualified tutor to play is to understand the differences of students and tailor a good learning material/flow/environment for them. When I prepared the class topic myself, I prepared and had an idea of how I would be talking about in a class. However, disappointed to say, this time, when I asked Javier to guide the class, I couldn't see the similar result. It was still very nice to have had a few classes with you. I am hoping this would give a fair but honest opinion.
